Our new Friends & Sponsors page is an opportunity to self-promote and cross-pollinate through our website. Those of you that participated in our previous Network page may recognize the image grid format of our page. For those that participated in the past or would be interested in participating in the future, read on to learn more. This is an open-call to participate and we are immediately accepting artwork for both sponsor and friend banners. If you have any questions or feel something is unclear, please comment or send us an e-mail. It will be very helpful in developing our Friends and Sponsors FAQs page when we go live with the website.
What is the Friends and Sponsors page?
Our Friends and Sponsors page is a links page with a twist, coupling paid sponsorship advertising with free link exchanges. Since we’re visual people and tend to associate with visual people, we figured a graphic-based links page would be of most interest for all parties involved.
Who can participate?
You can. At this stage in the game, we’re not too concerned about big-box retailers monopolizing our sponsor ads. The reality is that if you’re taking the time to read these FAQs, you’re more than likely a prime candidate for our Friends and Sponsors page.
What is the difference between a sponsor and friend?
We equally love our sponsors and our friends, but sponsors pay for their banner placement and, in exchange, receive additional advertising benefits.
How much does a sponsor ad cost and what does it include?
A sponsors ad is $120 for the first six months ($60 setup fee and $10/month). Thereafter, six month renewals are only $60. A Sponsor ad includes:
-6 months 150 x 150 static banner on website | featured placement above friends
-6 months 150 x 150 static banner on blog | not available to friends
-Indefinite 150 x 150 static banner with optional one paragraph bio on Flickr (new Dolan Geiman Sponsors set) | not available to friends
-Option to use logo in banner| not available to friends
I'd like to sign up for a sponsor ad. What should I do?

- Contact Name
- Company Name
- E-mail Address
- Artwork: 150 x 150 (pixels) static banner – no GIF animations please
- Desired link and (optional) title/alt text
- (Optional) one paragraph bio or description for Flickr image
We will go live with all sponsor ads we receive between now and the site relaunch (hopefully by mid-August).
Thereafter, sponsor ads will start on the 15th of the month. Therefore, depending on when you submit your ad material, there may be a slight delay in getting everything posted.
I'd like to participate as a friend. What should I do?
Our friends spots are 75 x 75 (pixels) static banners that are posted indefinitely on the website only. There are only two stipulations to our friends section:
(1) your friends image cannot be a logo
(2) you must reciprocate a link.

Like with our sponsor ads, we will go live with all friend banners we receive between now and the site relaunch (hopefully by mid-August).
How do sponsors pay?
Sponsor ads are invoiced via Google Checkout. For sponsors that submit artwork for the site launch, you will not be invoiced for your ad until 1-2 weeks prior to the site launch. After the site launch, sponsors ads will invoiced immediately upon receipt of materials and must be paid prior to the materials being posted.
What if I want my sponsor ad to begin a certain month?
That’s no problem. Just remember that our ads start on the 15th of the month. You may note your special requests in your e-mail when you submit your materials.
Will I receive notification when my 6-month sponsor ad is about to expire?
Yes. We will e-mail all sponsors 15 days before their ads expire with the option to new. At that time, sponsors may update their artwork if they so choose.
I participated in your previous network page and wish to continue my participation. Do I need to resubmit artwork?
Yes, please. We know it is a pain, but it will greatly assist us in developing this new page.
How do you decide the order and placement of sponsor ads?
We are looking into the possibility of having the sponsor ads load randomly so ads will display “above the fold” randomly. For now, sponsor ad placement is being manually controlled through our content management and we will make our best attempt to make the system as fair and equitable as possible. For this reason, we’re keeping the cost of sponsors ads very low recognizing this as a more informal advertising opportunity.
