YES Gallery & Studio in Warren, Rhode Island is Rhode Island's newest art destination owned by Leigh Medeiros. A screenplay writer, a RISD teacher, and now a gallery director, Leigh most certainly counts "nature lover" among her many tiles and interests. With exhibition titles like Birdbrained and Harebrained and Nature/Nurture, YES Gallery & Studio is a calling card for animal-loving artists and collectors alike. Best of all, Leigh couples exhibitions with charitable giving and special events like this month's visit by Anne Dimonti, an Audubon naturalist who brought a barred owl to the gallery backyard and auctioned off nationally-acclaimed artist Cole Gerst's "Owl" screenprint to raise money for the cause.

Cooper Sanchez Sanctuary art collection
A discussion about animals and artwork would not be complete with mentioning artist Cooper Sanchez. Cooper is a native Georgian currently living in Clarkston, an old farming community outside of Decatur. Dolan and I have been in touch with Cooper via e-mail many times over the years, admirers of his work and sharing an appreciation for Southern culture and folk art. When we first "met" Cooper, he was working in collage predominantly as well as creating signature monkey heads like these:
Today, his focus is painting in a style described by Cooper as "refined classical aesthetics and a raw/gut approach inspired by old Southern folk art".
