Pica Pica Design

Though we’ve yet to catch full-on bird-flu, we have fallen for the work of Liz Grottyohann – the artist behind PICA PICA Design. (For all you trivia heads: pica is a unit of measurement in typography, pica pica is the Latin name for a black-billed magpie, or scavenger – thanks to Liz’s website, we’ve learned something new today, indeed!)

A graphic designer by trade, Liz has recently been producing some pretty gorgeous crafts (jewelry, home décor, bowls) out of found, discovered or recycled materials. Some of our personal favorites are the Army Man Bowl (made from plastic toys!), the stamp-collector necklace, and the fabric wreath.

If you head over to her website, be sure to check out Liz’s artwork, as well – Ranging from a variety of terrific mixed media constructions recalling Jasper Johns or good old Mr. Cornell, to digital collages with clever twists on nostalgic childhood images.
