Weekly Wrap Up

New in the Etsy shop April Evening I and II original mixed media (2009)

After a long and snowy winter here in Chicago, Dolan and I are ready to hit the road and are happy to be spending the weekend preparing for our shows next week in Atlanta and Tampa. In between the packaging & organizing, we pause for a moment to recap this week's news:

1. New Works in the Etsy Shop: On Friday we distributed our March e-mail newsletter and, in preparation, we posted a number of new works to the Etsy shop:
  • Panel Paintings: new rodeo girl, trees, trucks, motorcycles panels
  • Rescued Wood Constructions: new double songbird & single songbird constructions, along with new images of the whale, owl, and lovebird constructions
  • Original Mixed Media: April Evening I and II (featured above), new circular moth set Lamplight I and II, and a 2008 large-scale blackbird piece previously on exhibit at the John Michael Kohler Arts Center
2. Feature in Array Magazine: An original mixed media piece, the Campfire Story Wooden Poster, was featured in the spring issue of Array, the magazine of the New York Designer Center.

3. What's the Bestseller of 2009 so far? Check out our favorite piece of 2009, the In the Cattails Box Print. A great living room piece, the 27 x 40 in Box Print retails for $600. New images of the Box Print have been posted to Etsy.

4. Blackbird (Fall Harvest) Box Print in Artful Home Catalog:
Check out page 18 of Artful Home's summer 2009 catalog, featuring the Blackbird Fall Harvest Box Print. Subscribe to receive Artful Home's catalog here and shop online for the Box Print here.

5. Sacred Art is Moving: our beloved Chicago retailer Sacred Art is moving to a new location in Lincoln Square. Visit the shop during its final days in Roscoe Village (through March 15). Sacred Art's new location will be 4619 N Lincoln Avenue, across from the Davis Theater. Owner Sarah Chazin hopes to have the new location open by late March, but call to confirm 773.728.2803. In celebration of the new location, we're going to begin stocking original mixed media works, in addition to the hearty selection of Panel Paintings, Box Prints, paper prints, and Rescued Wood Constructions Sacred Art has stocked since 2007.

6. New Eco-friendly Creative Marketplace: This month we've teamed up with a new creative marketplace, Cosa Verde. Cosa Verde is an eco-focused marketplace, connecting independent and emerging artists with environmentally-conscious consumers. If you've been struggling to search through Etsy to find eco-friendly vendors, this is your new favorite resource! Browsing categories include organic, reusable, repurposed, recycable, conflict-free, cruelty-free, and green sources. Learn more about Cosa Verde's founders Liz Grotyohann and Jeff Fein-Worton
here.

Finally, on a personal note, we're slowly leaking the news about a very happy development in our lives. Business and life partners for over six years, Dolan and I are officially engaged. It may seem a little anti-climatic, but it's a big step for us and we're looking forward to beginning wedding plans in the coming year (or two...hey, it took us 6 years to get engaged after all). Thanks to Adam Smith (sculptor/jeweler) for helping Dolan re-fashion his grandmother's locket into my beautiful engagement necklace. I'm not a fan of gold, diamonds, or even rings for that matter and the necklace he created is absolutely perfect.

Thanks for the post about cosa verde and CONGRATULATIONS on getting engaged! Jeff and I just took the same step, anti-climactic, as you say, after 10+ years, but such a big step. I'm so happy for both of you.
