Dolan Geiman Commission for Hyatt Regency Atlanta

Dolan Geiman works with interior designers, architects, and art consultants nationwide on private and commercial art commissions via our To the Trade program. This week, we wrapped up one such commission, a 48" x 48" original art piece for the the historic Hyatt Regency in Atlanta. This Hyatt Regency is a landmark hotel in Atlanta and the world's first Hyatt Regency hotel. Currently undergoing a $60 million tranformation, the commission will serve as part of the permanent collection on view to the public.

With commissions, we often ask our trade contacts to refer to our website and Flickr portfolios to present our artwork to clients. In turn, these works serve as inspiration for new works. While no two pieces are the exact same, we often create companion pieces (we think of them as siblings to the original) based on past, sold artworks. In the case of this commission, the inspiration was the following piece, Lepidoptera I.

As art directed by the client, this work was reinterpreted with patriotic red, white, and blue colors and stars in reference to good ol' American rock and roll and the music of Lynyrd Skynyrd. Here's a quick iPhone image. Drop by the renovated Hyatt Regency on your next visit to Atlanta to see the finished piece in person!
