Scene in Chicago 2006

As you probably know from the calendar page of our website, Dolan has a new selection of paintings and collages on exhibit with Judy Saslow Gallery now through Thanksgiving. For those of you unable to view the works in person, the show can also be viewed online with their preview page. I have always wondered about the experience of viewing artwork online. Is this something people do? Do people purchase medium/large works online outside of the Ebay and auction house environment? In our quest for newsletter feature items, we've come across a few sites devoted to affordable artwork via e-commerce such as the Swedish company Wonderwall and the San Francisco based The Beholder. While we love the concept of art outside the gallery (hence the development of Dolan Geiman Art Parties), is visual art appropriate for the online marketplace? If so, why are galleries not more quick to expand or re-invent themselves into the virtual arena? Thoughts?
