Well, we've returned from Nashville after a succesful run of the Art Machine at the Artrageous event. We are still waiting on a full set of pictures from the trip, but we've managed to post a few on our Flickr site. The infamous Hatch Show Print, one of the oldest working letterpress shops in the country, screenprinted some Art Machine posters in honor of the event. If you'd like one, stop by TAG Art Gallery and tell director Jerry Dale we sent you.
While in Nashville, we had the opportunity to see Mr. Hooper's work first hand in the small gallery at TAG and Harry's work at Plowhaus Artists' Coopertive and Belcourt Theatre. If you live in Nashville and would like some affordable artwork for the holidays, look no further than these fine Tennessee artists! TAG is also doing an Affordable Art Summit with Dolan, Steve Keene, and others the first weekend in December.
In between time spent with the Art Machine, we hopped around Nashville visiting shops and stores: Ernest Tubb Record Shops (with weekly midnight jamborees), Bluegrass Inn on Broadway, the Hip Zipper vintage clothing shop in East Nashville, the Alleycat Lounge also in East Nashville, and the Parthenon near Vanderbilt University. One the way back to Chicago, we missed the opening hours at Dinosaur World in Kentucky but had an amazing home-cooked meal (we're talking real mashed potatoes folks) at the Bel-Air Restaurant off the same exit. We also snagged some huge billboard scraps somewhere between Lafayette and Merrillville Indiana. Thank God for bungee cords.
