Old Town Art Fair 2008It's our first Chicago show of the 2009 season and we couldn't be happier. Now if only the weather would recognize our excitement for this weekend and cooperate! This weekend marks the 60th anniversary of the Old Town Art Fair, Saturday and Sunday from 10am-6pm RAIN OR SHINE. We'll be set up in booth 184 on Orleans between Wisconsin and Menomonee. (There are 2 art fairs in the Old Town neighborhood this weekend and we'll be participating in the one north of North Avenue). Highlights of the show include: 260 nationally acclaimed artists, a "Gallery of Gardens" tour of more than 30 urban home gardens, a self-guided historic tour of the Old Town Triangle District, a children's arts and crafts corner, and a food court hosted by local eateries. Come say hello and check out our entire inventory of available original mixed media. We'll be unveiling some new works not yet available in our Etsy shop you don't want to miss!
And, if you're extra excited about the fair this weekend and want an early preview, support Old Town Triangle Association's preview auction and cocktail benefit, First Sight Friday Night, tonight from 7pm-10pm at A New Leaf (1818 N Wells). Tickets are $65.

Upcoming Event: Muscle in the Hustle Panel Discussion June 20
Next weekend, Dolan will be participating in a 2-session panel discussion on contemporary approaches to promoting art hosted by the Chicago Urban Art Society at the Chicago Sustainable Manufacturing Center (our studio building). The panel discussions will be moderated by Angeline Gragasin of NATIONAL HEADQUARTERS & Greg Hertzlieb of the Brauer Art Museum. We've heard Greg speak on numerous occasions at the former Uncle Freddy's Gallery and know, first hand, he is an excellent speaker and fantastic choice as one of the event's moderators. Joining Dolan on the first artist-lead panel discussion is friend and artist Tom Torluemke from Northwest Indiana. Tom is one of the most gifted artists we've met, a true creative visionary in every possible sense of the world, and, along with his life partner Linda Dorman, has contributed greatly to the public's arts enrichment throughout Indiana. Tom has a solo show this summer at the Chicago Cultural Center, opening on Friday July 10.

(June 2, 2009 – Chicago, IL) – The Chicago Urban Art Society presents:
“Mustle in the Hustle”, a 2 session panel discussion focusing on current art movements and projects in the Chicagoland area. The first session will be an artist-led discussion on the successes / failures of promoting their art, and new and unorthodox approaches to the current market. The second session will be led by a panel of curators and gallery directors whose focus is emerging, contemporary, & local artists. They discuss their successes / failures in promoting their venue / vision, in artist selection, & original approaches to attracting audiences. Art makers and artists areas of interests include but not limited to DIY, street art, graffiti art culture, mixed media, muralism, found object, performance, photography, public art, print-making, and literary arts.

UPDATE 6/17/09 - Due to an illness in the family, Dolan will be flying home to Virginia this weekend and unable to attend the panel discussion. We hope everyone will still come out for the event and enjoy the panel discussions being hosted by Chicago Urban Art Society.

We've participated in the Chicago edition of this show since 2005, but have decided to mix things up a bit this year and head to New York instead (Sorry Chicagoans!).
